Most members start with no knowledge of the game but, after some tuition, the rudiments of golf croquet can be learnt quickly. Learning strategy is equally as important as acquiring the skill to hit the ball where you want it to go! It is one of the few sports in which men and women can play on equal terms regardless of physique and strength. There are mallets for use by members and the only requirement of players is to wear flat shoes on the lawns.
We play on Monday afternoons from 1.30pm to 4.30pm with a break for refreshments. For the first session, games are organised by drawing who plays whom to ensure there is a varied mix of players. We also hold a handicap singles and a doubles competition during the season.
The season runs from the beginning of April to mid-October. Croquet is played on lawns managed by Branston Croquet Club for which an annual fee is paid.
